The disaster nursing includes prevention, preparedness, and response and recovery phases. It requires coordination of different departments to avoid and manage disasters. National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) uses disaster management assistance teams (DMATs) made up of professional and paraprofessional medical personnel to provide medical care in the event of a disaster or other emergency. These teams support the federal medical response to natural or manmade disasters, such as hurricanes, earthquakes, transportation accidents, and terrorist attacks involving weapons of mass destruction.

TRACK 12: Nursing Informatics

Nursing informatics is a branch of health informatics that combines the management and processing of nursing data and the continued education of nursing staff towards an automated health information system. According to the International Medical Informatics Association, “Nursing informatics is the integration of nursing, its information, and information management with information processing and communication technology, to support the health of people world-wide.”

Often overlooked, nursing informatics is an integral component of the struggle to convert medical institutions to a paperless system. Usually nurses have to take on the responsibility of training in IT without funding from their employers. It is necessary to educate and compromise with nursing staff to find a system that both meets their need and is comfortable for them to use. Nurses can be a powerful ally for implementing new technologies in the medical community because they have to communicate between doctors, patients and administration.

TRACK 13: Community Nursing

Communities are struggling with a large number of people across the lifespan, who receive minimal or no health care because they cannot afford or access services. Nurses have always cared for individuals, families and communities in their practice. Recently, there has been an increase in the number of nurses working outside the hospital, primarily in community-based settings that focus on individuals and families. There is also increasing emphasis on community-focused nursing care with the community as the client. The population of ageing and chronically ill patients is increasing, and, coupled with the complex social conditions of today, has led to ill health, which increases hospital care expenses. Professional health services are not capable of meeting the ever-increasing demands of health care in this changing health culture.

TRACK 21: Nursing Practice and Management

Nursing Practice delves into the insights of how communication plays a crucial role in putting patients in comfort zone. Communication skills for Nursing Practitioners plays a key role in delivering effective patient care. Greeting patients with a smile and addressing him by his first name, using simple sentences with gestures, being attentive to patients or his family when they try to talk to you, your body language, unhurried manner, everything plays a key role in patient care delivery. So, this conference lays stress on effective communication skills for nursing practitioners. Nursing management consists of the performance of the leadership functions of governance and decision-making within organizations employing nurses. It includes processes common to all management like planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling. It is common for registered nurses to seek additional education to earn a Master of Science in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice to prepare for leadership roles within nursing. Management positions increasingly require candidates to hold an advanced degree in nursing.

TRACK 22:  Environmental nursing

The primary dictum for registered nurses, as health care professionals, is First, do no harm. In the increasingly complex environment in which health care is delivered today, registered nurses are the premiere advocates for the safety and quality of patient care, health care practices and products. Pollution, contamination of food and water, indoor and outdoor air quality issues, lead paint, toxins in health and beauty aids, etc. Well, we surely all get the point – there are myriad risks inherent in our daily environment and some are especially vulnerable to these hidden dangers. It’s a focus that increasingly involves many disciplines, both from within and outside the healthcare community. On the broad level, it involves research, assessment, advocacy, policy development and community education; on a more personal scale, the patient-provider level, it finds dedicated healthcare professionals incorporating new understanding and new skills into their daily practices.

Market growth of Nursing in the world wide:

Today demand for nurses is greater than ever. People around the world are living longer, and of course older people tend to use more healthcare services. In fact, according to the UN, the number of people in the world aged 60 or older is expected to more than double by 2050, exceeding two billion. In the US another factor is leading to increased demand for healthcare: The Department of Health and Human Services reports that 20 million individuals have gained insurance through the Affordable Care Act.

Little wonder, then, that of the more than 800 different occupations listed by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), registered nurses are projected to have the second-highest job growth over the next ten years. When you look solely at occupations that require a bachelor’s degree, registered nurses take the number 1 spot. Today there are nearly 3 million nurses employed in the US and 439,300 more positions are expected by 2024, a 16% increase from 2014.

Market Analysis for Nursing In Australia :

The Australian health system is a mix of public and private sector service providers. The number of RNs working in both the public and private sectors increased from 2009 to 2012, with the number working in the private sector increasing at a greater rate than those in the public sector. This resulted in the percentage of all RNs employed in the public sector falling by three percentage points from 2009 (69 percent) to 2012 (66 percent), with the percentage of RNs employed in the private sector increasing three percentage points. Overall, the total number of employed ENs fell slightly from 2009 to 2012 (by approximately 100 ENs). While over half of all ENs were employed in the public sector in 2012, the move from employment in the public to private sectors was more pronounced in the EN workforce – with the percentage of ENs in the public sector falling from 62 percent to 55 percent, and a corresponding increase in private sector employment (from 38 percent to 45 percent).
